WebEnglish: The Tay Bridge (also known informally as the Tay Rail Bridge) spans the River Tay between Dundee (on the north bank) and Wormit. The first bridge opened in 1878 but it collapsed the following year while a train was crossing it in a storm. 75 people were killed. The present day bridge was opened to replace it in 1887.
